Alfredo and Isabel Aquilizan are holding an exhibit from 7 June to 10 July 2015 entitled “Belok Kiri Jalan Terus (Devices; Project Another Country)” at Ask Galerie. The couple, who are known for creating exhibits that are interactive and create them out of objects they have collected which contains important and intimate memories, have held a workshop with students from Insitut Seni Indonesia Yogyakarta. In this workshop, they have studied the sickle, the process of its creation and the nuances people associate it with and this exhibit has become a product of this.

Alfredo Aquilizan explores almost any medium to better express himself: he draws, paints, sculpts, mixes media, creates assemblages, and initiates installation projects. His works are intimate and focuses on the concept memory and the act of remembrance. In 1986, he earned his fine arts degree from the Philippine Women’s University and later on, finished his master’s from the Polytechnic University in Norwich, England. He is currently finishing his doctorate at the Griffith University in Brisbane, Indonesia.

Isabel Aquilizan has a broad range of talents just like her husband: she is a teacher, performing artist, director and actress. Due to the inherent nature of her focus in performing arts, she collaborates with her husband in his installations. She finished her Communication Arts degree in 1986 at the Assumption and is currently the mother of five children.
