Artist Talk: Lisa Andrew

Lisa an American artist born in Tokyo who lived in Manila in the Seventies, and is currently based in Sydney. Andrew is currently a candidate for a Doctor of Creative Arts at the University of Wollongong in New South Wales where she is researching Philippine textiles which positions Piña cloth as an agent of travel and transculturation. Andrew has been travelling over the past four years to Baguio,Panay, Palawan and Laguna to research “Modified Fruit:Weaving Polysemic Fibres and Material culture”. Andrew’s practice is digital textiles and for the new work she is producing, is learning Callado embroidery. Andrew is represented by Conny Dietzschold Gallery Sydney.
Andrew will talk about “Baby High Speed”, a four person exhibition in Manila, in 2016, loosely based on the idea of textiles including Lisa Andrew, Maria Cruz, Sarah Goffman and Elizabeth Pulie.
