Momento: Gregory Raymond Halili
From 27 November to 20 December 2014, Silverlens is exhibiting Gregory Halili’s “Memento.” In this exhibit, Halili transforms his longing for the distant past and reminisced heritage into an artifact that has been shaped by time and the forgone culture of the country. He uses a shell and carves a human skull on it observing that they are of the same shape representing how human existence and nature’s own passage are intertwined in the cycle of life and death and the enduring presence of the past.
Gregory Halili is a Filipino artist who grew up in the United States for 25 years before deciding to settle in the land of his birth. He is known for his miniature paintings and has recently been experimenting with various surfaces for his works.
